Remembering Andrew Aitken

Andrew Aitken rests in a familial lair in Larbert Cemetery. He died from influenza and pneumonia on February 26th, 1919, at 6 Steps Street, Stenhousemuir, at the age of eighteen.

Andrew was born on January 22nd 1901, at Carron Hall Row, Larbert, the first child and only son of John, a coal miner, and Jeanie (nee Laing). The couple had married the year before. When the Census was taken shortly after Andrew was born, the family resided at 28 Red Row, Larbert.

Ten years later, the Aitken Family resided at 33 Carronshore Road in Larbert. Andrew, aged ten, was attending school. The family had grown with the arrival of his four sisters, Jane (Jr), Elizabeth, Janet, and Ella.

Andrew was employed as an apprentice bricklayer at his death. His obituary was published in the Falkirk Herald on March 1st.
