Remembering Isabella Porter

Isabella rests in Mar’s Wark Cemetery. She died on the 7th of December 1918 at Broomfield, Newhouse, Stirling aged seventeen. She shares a lair with her two year old sister Grace and her parents. The grave is located close to the Castle Wynd entrance to the cemetery and is marked by an eloquent Celtic cross headstone in good condition.

Isabella was born in Stirling on the 6th of June 1906 to wine and spirit merchant William and Helen (nee Dodds). She was their eldest child. Including Grace who sadly died in 1909 should was the eldest of seven siblings. I believe the family left Stirling and resided in Burntisland, Fife where Grace’s death was registered. By 1911 when the census was taken the family had returned to Stirling and resided at Newhouse.

The Stirling Observer on the 10th of December bore Isabella’s obituary. Her funeral was private.
